Attach music, record a voiceover WHILE the video plays, and balance the three audio lanes (Original / Music / Voiceover) from a single mixer strip.

Voiceover — record WHILE the video plays (E17b)
The natural creator flow: hit ▶ on the mic, video plays, you narrate, take lands time-synced on the Voiceover lane.
- Scrub the playhead to where you want the take to start.
- Click 🎙 on the Voice lane header (or in the Audio tool's Voiceover sub-tab).
- Grant mic permission the first time — the browser will prompt.
- Video preview starts playing. Narrate.
- Hit Stop (in the recording banner) or wait for the video to end — auto-stop kicks in.
- Take lands as a new block on the Voiceover lane; playhead returns to the start of the take so you can hit ▶ to review immediately.
Wear headphones. During recording the video's own audio is muted through the speakers by default (mic-bleed protection). Without headphones you won't hear the source while narrating.
Multiple takes coexist on the same lane. If a new take overlaps an existing one, kuhukoo prompts: Replace the old take, or Keep both. Double-click any voiceover block to delete it.
The mixer strip
Below the timeline whenever the session has any audio:
- Original slider (0–200%) + mute — the video's own captured audio.
- Music slider + mute — applies to every attached music track.
- Voiceover slider + mute — applies to every voiceover take.
- Duck source under voiceover checkbox — when on, the E15 sidechain follower drops the video's own audio during voiceover peaks (~200 ms attack, ~500 ms release).
Mutes are hard overrides — the slider value is ignored while a lane is muted. All values persist in the EditSession so a saved edit reopens with your mix intact.
Ducking (E15) — auto-drop music under speech
Music tracks marked "Ducks" (default ON) auto-lower under voiceover using an envelope follower — no manual keyframing. The mixer's "Duck source under voiceover" toggle extends the same treatment to the video's own audio when you want the voiceover to dominate.
Mobile Safari note
MediaRecorder on iOS Safari lands audio/mp4 instead of audio/webm. Everything works — kuhukoo picks the supported mime type automatically — but the file is slightly larger. Older iOS versions (< 14.5) may not support MediaRecorder at all; the record button won't appear.
Upload as an alternative
Not comfortable recording in-browser? Audio tool → 📁 My uploads → Upload voiceover takes any webm / mp3 / m4a / wav file and drops it on the Voiceover lane at the current playhead.
